Are Dietary Guidelines to Blame for Chronic Disease?

The dietary guidelines that came out in 1980 are not to blame for chronic disease because very few people adhere to them. The guidelines did make clear recommendations for replacing certain foods, but the food industry and environment have shaped the way people eat today. The 1980 version of the guidelines already included recommendations that are still supported by evidence today, such as consuming fruits and vegetables, avoiding processed junk, and moderating certain types of fat. However, the issue is that the population does not follow the guidelines, and issuing them has not had a significant impact on people's eating habits.
