NOTE

The Neurological Basis of Emotional Decision Making

Emotion plays a crucial role in decision-making, as removing the emotional center from the brain would severely impair the ability to make decisions. While logic is used to anticipate emotional responses, emotions drive our decision-making processes. We subconsciously make decisions based on how we expect to feel, whether it is to feel safe, loved, successful or to avoid guilt. Our neurology enables us to seek emotional experiences and avoid negative emotions. Emotions are constantly present, and our level of awareness of them varies. Traumatic experiences can hinder our ability to identify and express emotions, leading to emotional suppression. Overcoming emotional suppression involves learning to identify, feel, and express emotions, ultimately leading to emotional fluidity, which is essential for personal growth and development.
