NOTE

Understanding Ambivalence Toward Achieving Goals

Setting goals can lead to feelings of ambivalence when approaching their attainment. As we get closer to achieving a goal, the realization of the responsibilities and expectations that come with it can create a sense of reluctance or doubt. For instance, aiming to buy a home may initially seem appealing, but the awareness of tax payments, maintenance tasks, and social obligations can trigger ambivalence. This inner conflict can unconsciously drive a person to sabotage their own progress, as they may find that the goal requires more than they initially anticipated and may conflict with their true desires.
