Competition vs Cooperation and the Rise of the Ego
The tension between competition and cooperation is a wider problem in society. The microbiome teaches us that with enough biodiversity, there is no competition, only cooperation. The drive to be number one or consume excessive content is driven by the ego's sense of scarcity and the need to fill perceived gaps in oneself.
