Social Homeostasis and Responses to Social Isolation

Extended periods of social isolation can lead to negative responses when reintroduced to a social group, including territorial behavior, aggression, avoidance, and anti-social behavior in humans, monkeys, mice, and even flies. Conversely, acute social isolation followed by reintroduction to the social group results in a burst of affiliative interactions and pro-social behavior.
