A staggering 74% of the American population is unfit for military service, largely due to obesity-related issues. Currently, 30% of teenagers face prediabetes, while 18% suffer from fatty liver disease, historically associated with heavy alcohol use. Cancer is increasingly prevalent, with a 79% rise in young adult cases and over 2 million estimated cancer cases this year. Mental health issues are pervasive, as 25% of women use antidepressants and 40% of 18-year-olds have a mental health diagnosis. Moreover, the U.S. currently holds the highest rates of infant and maternal mortality in the developed world, despite extensive spending on care.
