John Defterios: I think one framing for our conversation is to talk about research which is directed at having an impact on the world. What does it mean for research to be impact driven? And yeah, what kinds of routes to impacts can you imagine for different kinds of research? He says he would say his like janky breakdown that he came up with would be sort of four key components. One is aiming to actually change what happens in the world. That's one key thing. A third thing is aiming for that to be roughly the biggest you can make it. So they're talking about this expected value idea of like probability time consequences. But also something like curiosity driven or funding driven
