Want to measure your fitness level? Don't focus on completing protocols, focus on getting close to your predicted maximum heart rate. Test your heart rate recovery by counting the beats per minute within the next minute after reaching maximum fatigue. Aim for about a half a beat recovery per second. If your heart rate recovery is worse than expected, you may have a problem with your anaerobic or cardiovascular capacity.
