Effects of Altitude on Resting Metabolic Rate and Exercise Intensity

Higher altitudes tend to increase resting metabolic rate, although the evidence is limited and there may be variability in the results. At 4,000 meters, there is a consistent increase in resting metabolic rate, but at 2,000 meters, the evidence is based on a small number of subjects and shows conflicting results. Additionally, there is a suggestion that relative exercise intensity may be affected at moderate altitudes.
