Nephi's opening verse in the Book of Mormon reflects on being favored by the Lord despite facing afflictions. Through experiences like broken bows, deaths, and struggles, Nephi comes to know the extent of God's goodness, strengthening his covenant connection with God. Such deep, dark experiences allow us to realize that God has not forsaken us, leading us to become acquainted with God in our extremities.
