The Impact of College Education on Marriage and Economic Stability
People who go to college are more likely to have stable jobs and see themselves as reliable financial partners. They marry and pool their resources, making it easier to get through economic struggles. Outside the college educated class, there are more men in and out of work and men who earn less than women. This makes the value proposition of marriage less appealing, resulting in fewer people getting married. However, unmarried couples still express a desire to be married according to survey and ethnographic evidence.
