The attention in U.S. political discourse is predominantly on the federal level, but the majority of elected offices are at the state and local level where significant climate policy decisions are made. The state and local races often lack attention and funding from the climate community, despite their crucial role. Climate Cabinet, a new organization in 2020, focuses on identifying under-the-radar state and local races using data science to drive substantial climate progress. In 2022, Climate Cabinet collaborated with 60 candidates and claims a 75% success rate in key races.
