High levels of alcohol consumption can cause neurodegeneration in the brain, particularly in the neocortex./nA recent study found that even low to moderate amounts of alcohol can lead to thinning of the neocortex and other brain regions./nThe study included generally healthy middle-aged and older adults in the UK who were drinking various amounts of alcohol./nChronic alcohol intake, even at low levels, can disrupt the brain./nOn average, drinking one to two drinks per night can lead to brain degeneration./nConsuming seven or more drinks per week is likely to cause some degeneration of the brain./nThe study provides important data and answers the long-standing question about the effects of chronic alcohol intake on the brain.
