NOTE

Behavior as the Best Metric of Belief

The internalism, externalism debate in philosophy does not apply to the discussion, which may be related to functionalists about belief versus representation lists. Functionalists believe that to determine beliefs, one must consider a person's behavior in addition to what they state or report. This idea is similar to economists' concept of revealed preferences, where one's actual behavior is seen as the best metric of their preferences. This raises the question of whether our beliefs are transparent to us, and suggests that our self-image may differ from the facts.
