Scientology - What's the Idea Behind $50 a Week?
In the Church of Scientology, members are not allowed to have children unless they leave the organization. Abortion is expected if a member gets pregnant as it is believed to be for the greater good of Scientology. Sexual relations are permitted only after marriage, leading some to marry quickly. Divorce is common within the organization, with some individuals marrying and divorcing multiple times by a young age. Everyone in the Church of Scientology, except for David Miscavige, earns $50 a week as a way to promote a humble life and emphasize that members are not there for monetary gain. The $50 a week pay is intended to cover basic needs as members are expected to work continuously without traditional days off or weekends.
