Episode 7 – Aquinas on the Three Wisdoms - Philosophical, Theological, and Mystical | Fr. Dominic Legge, O.P.
Aquinas 101 - Course 2: Introduction to Thomistic Philosophy
The Light of the Sun Is Sensible Light
Intelligible light, perceivable by the intellect, is likened to the light of the sun, which represents sensible light. Contrary to common belief, Aquinas argues that the light of the sun, producing sensible light, is inferior to intelligible light. Just as sensible light enables sight, intelligible light empowers the intellect to know. The light in rational creatures originates from the supreme light enlightening all humans. Aquinas asserts this supreme light as the light of God, imprinted in human nature through creation, known as the light of natural reason. This imprint signifies a partial participation in the divine light.
