The Frankfurt Kitchen: A Revolutionary Design Ahead of its Time

In the late 1920s, the Frankfurt kitchen and its modern technologies were promoted through classes and a silent film. Despite opposition, the architects continued to champion modernism. However, with the rise of the Nazi party, public housing initiatives were cut, and production of the Frankfurt kitchen ceased in 1930. Nevertheless, the design remained influential, inspiring similar kitchens in the US. Schutto Lohatsky, the designer, did not always receive credit for her role as the mother of the modern kitchen.
