Participants in the study were instructed not to change their eating habits, but many of them started eating healthier anyways. They consumed more nutritious fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, and nuts, and fewer fried and ultra-processed snack foods. The researchers also noted that the more consistently and vigorously a person exercised, the more their diet tended to improve. According to one of the authors of the study, high-intensity exercise causes changes in neural processing in the brain, which in turn affects dietary preferences.
