The Unusual Conversion From Cutism to Christianity
The speaker grew up in a Jewish household but was exposed to Christian teachings through school and summer camp. Initially, the speaker found beauty in both the Exodus and Jesus stories but did not truly believe in God. However, over time, the speaker's perception of reality expanded to include spiritual elements and a transcendent order in the universe. This shift led to the speaker being fascinated by virtuous individuals and experiencing a sense of grace and underlying love in the world. The speaker's journey towards Christianity was gradual, sparked by receiving multiple copies of C.S. Lewis' 'Mere Christianity' and being deeply impacted by the radical teachings of the beatitudes. The speaker views Jesus as a revolutionary figure who challenged power structures and associates with him as a radical. Despite occasional doubts, the speaker finds the teachings of Christianity compelling and feels a spiritual connection to both Judaism and Christianity.
