Matthew's Transformation from Tax Collector to Follower of Jesus
Matthew, the author of the first chapter and all the chapters of the book of Matthew, was initially recognized as a tax collector, an outcast in society who had betrayed his own people and was not allowed to go to the synagogue or the temple. This label as a tax collector led to his isolation despite his financial wealth. However, everything changed when he met Jesus, who welcomed and accepted him despite his label, embodying the notion that God reaches out to and values individuals with societal labels, such as Rahab and each one of us.
