The general assumption that people are motivated only by money and status is flawed. While money and status do motivate us, a sense of purpose and meaning also plays a significant role. Achieving all our goals can lead to a crisis of purpose, as we struggle to find our new role. Additionally, the motivation for recognition is often underestimated, as evident from the example of babies seeking recognition from their mothers shortly after birth.
