High input low output spirituality
Spiritual wellness is often compromised by a high input, low output spirituality that prioritizes personal self-discovery and self-care over genuine communal engagement. This trend has evolved from a past where relentless mission activities overshadowed self-reflection, to a present where the focus on self leads to neglecting the needs of others. The current American church culture engages in numerous self-improvement activities, like workshops and retreats, without translating that inward focus into outward action. This shift toward narcissistic spirituality obscures both love for God and love for neighbor, ultimately fostering self-centeredness rather than meaningful community involvement. While self-awareness and care are beneficial, they become detrimental when they solely serve individual needs and ignore the pressing needs of the wider community.
