Understanding Bunions and Foot Instability

Bunions are a result of an instability at the foot, particularly at the junction between the midfoot and the forefoot. It is a transverse instability where the bone shifts to the outside, causing a noticeable out pouching in the widest part of the foot. This instability is often due to imbalances caused by shortened or lengthened Achilles tendons. The understanding of bunions becomes clearer when observing the foot's skeleton, as it visually explains the bone's shifting towards the outside.
