In the pursuit of goals, the focus should not be on achieving perfection immediately, but on striving for it continuously. Perfection is to be chased, not expected right from the start of a project or business. Having the notion of waiting for perfection as an excuse hinders progress. Instead of waiting to be flawless, one should focus on the relentless pursuit of perfection, understanding that perfection may never be fully attainable, especially in the early stages of a venture.

I've quoted Lombardi on the podcast before: "chase perfection." Problem is, most people emphasize the second word when the focus is really on the first. Perfection is an impossibility. We're supposed to chase it, not expect it. That's sounds counter-intuitive to a commitment to excellence, but it's not. In fact...perfectionism actually undermines excellence.
