NOTE

Exploring Gut Microbiota, Exogenous Ketones, and Blood BHB Levels

The impact of gut microbiota on ketone production or uptake is not directly studied currently; however, ketogenic diets are known to improve gut health. Exogenous ketones come in different forms like ketones salts, MCT oil, and ketone esters. Ketone salts, although containing BHB, do not significantly raise blood BHB levels to enhance cognitive or physical performance. MCT oil, a fatty acid, can be converted into ketones, but doesn't increase blood BHB levels substantially. Ketone esters, on the other hand, are BHB molecules bound to another in an ester bond like 15 dia l to increase blood BHB rapidly. While ketone esters can elevate blood BHB levels quickly, excessively high levels can lead to acidity in the blood, affecting cardiorespiratory stress biomarkers during exercise.
