Moving Beyond Traditional Human Rights

The Western political focus on traditional human rights such as life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness has led to neglect of other crucial issues like income inequality, climate change, and nuclear proliferation. Georgio Agamben believes that history has shaped preconceived notions about human rights, leading to acceptance of government control in biopolitics. He suggests moving towards a political strategy beyond human rights to find something better, challenging assumptions of inalienability and self-evidence of human rights.
