Our thoughts greatly impact our emotions and actions. By modifying the structure of our thoughts, through language or imagery, we can change our emotional response. For example, altering certain elements of a traumatic memory can immediately affect how we feel. With repetition, this change can become long-term and even permanent, altering our reactions to triggers. Triggers only hold meaning if we give them power. Therefore, changing our thoughts can transform our perspective on past experiences and influence our behavior in the present.
