Emergency Medicine Cases

NOTE

Detailed Canadian Pediatric Society Guidelines

The Canadian Pediatric Society recommends specific tests for patients under 60 days, categorizing them into two groups: under 28 days and between 29 and 60 days. Patients not meeting low-risk criteria in both groups should undergo LP admission with consideration for IV antibiotics. For low-risk babies under 28 days, admission is recommended with shared decision-making for LP. For babies between 29 and 60 days, clinical decision-making is essential, particularly if the urinalysis is positive. However, there is considerable variability in the implementation of these guidelines among centers and practitioners.
