Intelligence Tests, Discrimination, and the Dangers of Artificial Intelligence

Intelligence tests have historically been tied to eugenics, leading to forced sterilization of individuals who scored poorly. The use of intelligence as a measure of a person's worth has dangerous implications for their rights and freedoms. The fear of super-intelligent AI taking over the world is rooted in the historical precedent of more intelligent beings exerting control over others. There is also a concern that people may willingly cede decision-making to AI due to its perceived intelligence, potentially limiting individual freedom. Philosopher Stephen Cave suggests the concept of a 'freedom quotient' to quantitatively measure an individual's freedom in making decisions, drawing parallels to how the legal system already considers freedom in determining suitable punishments. While the idea is not yet fully developed, it prompts consideration for a more scientifically quantifiable way of measuring behavioral freedom in the future.
