Effects of War on Mental Health

The brutal and shocking experiences of war can have severe and lasting impacts on individuals' mental health. Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman highlighted in his book on killing that during World War II, over 800 thousand men were classified as unfit for military service due to psychiatric reasons. Instances of individuals going mad after witnessing gruesome scenes on the battlefield were not isolated incidents, as evidenced by the marine commander who went mad after being badly wounded in battle.
