Capital Allocators – Inside the Institutional Investment Industry

NOTE

Breaking up with founder before starting 8VC

Entrepreneurs must identify and leverage their unfair advantages when starting businesses, as this process is inherently challenging. One significant advantage in establishing 8VC was the financial backing of an early partner whose family had a strong connection to LG Korea. This partnership facilitated the initial fundraising efforts, enabling the company to raise a substantial amount of capital. However, differing visions for management and operational styles led to a split—one partner favored fewer, larger projects, while the other embraced a broader team approach, engaging more with networking and events. Ultimately, this divergence in entrepreneurial philosophy resulted in the team realigning under the founding member to pursue their vision with the new fund, ABC.
