Effective Altruism: Ten Global Problems – 80000 Hours

There are different clusters of views among people who think about artificial intelligence and the future, with some people believing that artificial intelligence will only gradually become more powerful, while others believe that it will rapidly become much more powerful, and that this could have major consequences for the world./nAlthough this view is not dominant, it is by far the most alarming of the views held by those associated with the machine intelligence research institute, and is something that many people should be worried about./nAlthough the stakes are high, it is reassuring to know that a significant number of people are working on developing artificial intelligence in a safe way, and that if more resources were put into this area, it might be possible to head off the more alarming predictions made by those in the 'dead end' camp.
