British perspective on losing the colonies and the peace agreement
After losing the colonies, the British see it as a fortunate outcome considering the situation could have been much worse. They wonder if the backlash against Britain is revenge for the Seven Years' War. London fears isolation in Europe, as it happened in the late 1770s and early 1780s. British policymakers learn from this and strive to avoid it. Despite their earlier mistakes, the British excel in negotiating peace with the Americans.
