The Jordan Harbinger Show
The Link Between Depression and Suicide
There is a strong link between depression and suicide, and it is often related to the lack or loss of status. Depression can occur when individuals feel they are failing to find status in their social group, triggering a subconscious response that indicates a loss of resources and security. This can lead individuals to retreat and avoid conflict with higher-status individuals. The causes of suicide are complex but, in many cases, it is associated with a significant loss of status, particularly when the decline is rapid. Instances such as financial crises have also demonstrated the importance of status and its impact on mental health. The subconscious response to lacking status is a normal function of the brain, signaling a dangerous situation for the human animal to be in.
