Jesus as the Vine and the Importance of Staying Connected

In John chapter 15, Jesus compares himself to a vine and us to branches. He emphasizes the importance of staying connected to him in order to bear fruit. It's like a branch being detached from a tree, it can't do anything. Even though the speaker has preached thousands of times, they are reminded that without abiding in Jesus, their efforts are meaningless.
