Social media was initially seen as a harmless and trivial platform. However, it later became a fundamental threat to democracy. Initially, social networking was celebrated for its potential to benefit democracy, with claims that it saved democracy during the first Facebook election and the Arab Spring. Social networking executives received lavish praise for this technology. However, opinions have now shifted, and social media is considered the worst possible threat to democracy. The same experts, professors, commentators, and analysts who previously praised social media have not attempted to reconcile their previous viewpoints. This shift demonstrates the drastic change in perception of the impact of social media on democracy.
