Influences on Public Perception of COVID-19 Restrictions
In 2020, COVID-19 restrictions were not as politically divisive or heavily enforced as often remembered. Both red and blue states implemented similar restrictions initially. As time progressed, some differences emerged but were relatively small. Despite the perception of intense government-directed lockdowns, the restrictions were largely a result of a culture of fear among individuals, partly influenced by public officials.
