NOTE

Daylight Exposure: The Impact on our Circadian Clock

Daylight exposure has a positive impact on our brain circadian clock. Ideally, one should get 1000 lux of light for up to one hour in the morning. Sitting next to a window during breakfast provides this amount of light. Going outdoors, even on a cloudy day, provides five to ten thousand lux of light. This minimum amount of light is needed to reset and train the circadian clock. For individuals with depression or winter blues, circadian researchers recommend five to ten thousand lux of light for an hour, which can be achieved by spending half an hour to one hour outdoors.
