Successful decision-making is based on being more right and rational, which leads to non-linear returns in life. The brain is a memory prediction machine that relies on mental models and principles rather than specific circumstances. Mental models from Evolution, Game Theory, and influential figures like Charlie Munger and Benjamin Franklin help in decision-making. Complexity theory has taught the limits of knowledge and prediction capabilities, leading to a system that operates in the face of ignorance. Being successful is about avoiding incorrect judgments and not just making correct judgments. Trust, odds assessment, and margin of safety are mental models used in determining success. Building a system and creating an environment that aligns with one's strengths increases the likelihood of success.

Naval Ravikant is the CEO and co-founder of AngelList. He’s invested in more than 100 companies, including Uber, Twitter, Yammer, and many others.
