Curriculum Development and Objective Setting in Education
The process of curriculum development involves identifying enduring understandings, essential questions, and big ideas to guide unit development. Teachers can collect ideas from their current curriculum and decide what students should learn and which strategies and skills are necessary for development. Objectives should align with big ideas and essential questions. Vocabulary instruction should focus on introducing words using a simple routine and then further developing the depth of knowledge about the word through processing and practice activities. However, assessing the achievement of goals and skills can be challenging due to the context in which the students might apply them.
