In the desert, silence and solitude can bring unexpected challenges. As we seek peace, our fears and angers may arise, but this is where transformation happens. Solitude is not a private escape, but a place of conversion, where our old selves die and new selves are born. Without solitude, we remain entangled in the illusion of the false self. It is the furnace of transformation, freeing us from attachments and fears. In the midst of a noisy world, we can offer the gift of peace by learning to be with our pain and letting God be with us. Through this, we become non-anxious, anchored in Jesus, and able to offer peace in a culture of fear.
