This self-absorption manifests as an incessant craving for validation and acclaim, creating an addictive cycle that leaves individuals perpetually unsatisfied. Ultimately, self-centeredness leads to personal misery and can resemble a state of hell on earth, as it enslaves individuals to their egos. C.S. Lewis emphasizes that selfish actions leave lasting marks on the soul, potentially dooming individuals unless they repent.
