Hip Hop Origins and Innovations

Experienced individuals perceived early hip hop as adding rap to R&B songs, but the true excitement of hip hop was found in the DJ's ability to create new music through reinterpretation and montage. Hip hop was about discovering new aspects in existing music and emphasizing the performance of the DJ rather than copying. The motivation to document and create hip hop music came from a desire to serve as a fan, as the existing music did not meet the fan's expectations. The initial idea that hip hop would evolve into what it is today was unimaginable during the early stages of the genre.
