NOTE

The Impact of Daylight Savings Time on Health and Decision Making

Daylight savings time globally affects around 1.65 billion people across 70 countries twice a year. A study showed that losing an hour of sleep in spring led to a 24% increase in heart attack risk the next day, while gaining an hour of sleep in fall resulted in a 21% reduction. The lost hour of sleep in spring is linked to higher hospitalization rates, increased car accidents, and elevated suicide rates. Additionally, federal judges gave harsher sentences after losing an hour of sleep, due to impaired emotional and mood states. Therefore, avoiding the spring time change could be beneficial for health and decision-making processes.
