Skin Biopsy Detection of Phosphorylated α-Synuclein
Neurology® Podcast
Clinical Diagnosis as Gold Standard for Disease Identification
The study aimed to identify sensitivity and specificity in clinical practice by using clinical decision-making as the gold standard. Multiple patients were involved, and a panel of expert physicians reviewed each case to determine the accuracy of the diagnosis. The research focused on synucleinopathy patients and controls, detecting phosphorylated alphasnuclein in skin biopsies. The results showed over 95% sensitivity for synucleinopathy patients and approximately 97% specificity for controls, demonstrating the effectiveness of using clinical diagnosis in disease identification.
