The Unfair Reception of Derrida's Engagement with Phenomenology
Derrida, a critic of structuralism, is often misunderstood. He is actually a phenomenologist and his critiques of phenomenology are valid. The term post-structuralism has unfairly overshadowed his engagement with the phenomenological tradition. While his critique of phenomenology is correct, he extends this criticism to other philosophers like Hegel and Rousseau. Derrida's work is more friendly to subjectivity compared to other thinkers in the Bergsonian tradition like Deleuze and Foucault.
