NOTE

Giftedness: A Double-Edged Sword

Giftedness encompasses not only high performance on standardized cognitive measures but also significant qualitative aspects characterized by neurodivergence. Gifted individuals often exhibit deep and complex thinking patterns, heightened emotional experiences, sensory sensitivities, and intense attention to detail. Despite their unique abilities, they frequently confront challenges like perfectionism and emotional overwhelm. The experience of giftedness can sometimes feel burdensome, as individuals may question the desirability of their gifts, considering the accompanying struggles. It is essential to recognize that while giftedness presents distinct advantages, it also entails specific difficulties, marking it as a complex condition rather than merely a diagnostic label.
