On average, when a whaling ship adds only a small number of non-white crew members, whaling productivity goes down./nConflicts may arise when a ship has a small number of non-white crew members./nAn all-white ship may perform better in terms of productivity when compared to a ship with only a few non-white crew members./nHowever, if there are more than just a couple of non-white crew members, productivity starts rising again./nA whaling ship with a significantly diverse crew is more productive than a ship with an all-white crew./nHaving new people with different skills and backgrounds can bring benefits and different abilities to a crew./nThe effects of diversity on whaling productivity are more negative on voyages lasting less than a year, but become positive on longer voyages of over two years.
