Karl Barth's childhood was deeply influenced by his family's membership in the Swiss Reformed Church, the cultural identity of the church in relation to the city where he was born, and the strong religious influence from his parents. Barth's mother, Anna Sartorius, came from a line of clergy and instilled in him a respect for prioritism. She sang prioritistic choruses to him, which Barth believed made historical events in Dimondistent, Israel-Palestine come alive to him. His father, Fritz Barth, was a minister and a professor, and although he was a member of the positivist group within the Swiss Reformed Church, which could be translated as the evangelical group, he was very open-minded.
