Sometimes, we overlook the wisdom of inarticulate and uneducated individuals who may have the right answers. We overestimate our uniqueness and assume others think about us as much as we do. Technical expertise is important, but we shouldn't discount communication and empathy. Our past experiences prepare us for the future. We often rely on others more than we realize. Our opinions may change with different incentives. Be cautious of advice from those who have different needs. Distinguishing between reality and ideals can be challenging. We shouldn't believe that others' unfortunate circumstances can't happen to us. Surly people may be going through something terrible. Communication can be hindered by assuming others understand your background.
